Overview
The AI Whistleblower Initiative enables individuals to confidentially report concerns related to potentially unethical, unsafe, or harmful uses of Artificial Intelligence, as well as concerns regarding the absence of responsible AI practices in appropriate contexts. The initiative supports confidential reporting for educational and public-interest purposes and ensures that submissions are reviewed fairly and consistently in alignment with the Council’s ethical principles. By promoting transparency and ethical awareness, the initiative supports public trust in the responsible advancement of AI technologies.
Purpose
This program provides a secure and trusted channel for identifying and documenting potential ethical risks, governance gaps, or responsible-use concerns related to Artificial Intelligence. Reports may include, but are not limited to:
- Potential misuse of AI systems related to discrimination, surveillance, or misinformation
- Concerns involving intellectual property, privacy, or human rights implications
- Deployment of AI systems without adequate testing, documentation, or human oversight
- Observed gaps in responsible AI adoption in sectors where ethical implementation may improve fairness, accessibility, or efficiency
- Potentially manipulative or deceptive uses of AI in political, educational, or organizational contexts
Reports contribute to the Council’s research, analysis, and public-awareness efforts aimed at promoting ethical AI practices and informed dialogue in the public interest.
Confidentiality
The Council is committed to maintaining a high level of confidentiality for individuals who submit reports. Whistleblower submissions are reviewed in a confidential manner, and identifying information is not disclosed without explicit consent, except as required by law. Reports may be anonymized prior to review to support privacy and responsible handling of information.
How It Works
Submit a Report – Individuals may submit confidential reports through the Council’s secure reporting process.
Initial Review – A volunteer Ethics Review Panel conducts an initial review to assess relevance and alignment with the Council’s educational and ethical mission.
Follow-Up – With consent, the Council may request additional clarification to support accurate understanding of the concern.
Educational Engagement – Where appropriate, the Council may use anonymized insights from reports to inform research, guidance, educational materials, or dialogue with relevant organizations, academic partners, or public-interest stakeholders.
