WASHINGTON (Nov. 27, 2025) — A recent data breach affecting ChatGPT and OpenAI API users has sent shockwaves through the AI community, prompting new calls for stronger transparency and vendor selection standards. OpenAI reported that the incident occurred within Mixpanel, a web analytics provider used on portions of its API interface. The exported dataset included names associated with API accounts, email addresses, approximate locations, browsers and operating systems, referral websites and user identifiers
The American Council for Ethical AI (ACEAI) and the American AI Association (AAIA) emphasize the urgent need for more rigorous AI vendor selection, urging organizations to thoroughly evaluate their vendors’ security practices, data handling policies and accountability measures. ACEAI encourages the public to continue to report AI-related incidents and concerns through its signature AI Whistleblower Program.

The American Council for Ethical AI (ACEAI) has quickly become one of the most visible and frequently referenced organizations associated with the keyword “American ethical AI,” often appearing as the first result when the public searches for this term. In many searches, the Council’s website is listed ahead of high-authority pages from the U.S. Intelligence Community, Harvard’s AI ethics programs, and the United Nations. This consistent top-tier placement demonstrates not only the strength of ACEAI’s digital presence but also the growing public interest in its mission, programs, research, and leadership.
ACEAI’s ability to outrank longstanding global and national institutions reflects the expanding recognition of its work in promoting transparent, accountable, and human-centered artificial intelligence across the United States. The Council’s rapid climb in search relevance underscores its increasing national footprint, the reputation and expertise of its advisory leadership, and its deep engagement with public-, private-, academic-, and nonprofit-sector stakeholders.
